Althea has been a birder since the day she was born. Not because she’s a bird herself, but let’s be honest, it doesn’t hurt. She comes to the subject from her own personal perspective. As an outspoken proponent of bird rights, Althea had to overcome some initial issues with her peers when she began her studies in ornithology. Some of them complained that she had a leg up on them, what with being a bird, and some of them even attempted to study her. But she quickly won them over to her way of thinking using her keen insight, and eyesight. An ornithologist studies bird behavior, physiology, ecology, and conservation. She likes her lab at Cornell, but she really loves being in the field.She’s one of the only ornithologists working today who does not need to tag birds in order to track their migration patterns and that makes her sought after by bird labs all over the world. When she’s not doing her own research she travels around spreading her love of birding, speaking at schools and birding society meetings, anywhere she can help people to understand how important birds are to the ecosystem and to humanity as a whole.
