Ruby is a throwback. As a child she spent her days after school with her grandma Mildred learning and listening. Mildred was a switchboard operator in the 30’s in Chicago. Hard to imagine in today’s world of cell phones, but back at the beginning someone had to manually relay a call on a central switchboard and  it was so hectic she wore roller skates to get around. Ruby inherited those skates. When she was younger and had to put rolled socks in the skates to make them fit, her friends would give her the business as they zoomed around on their inline skates. Ruby would put the kibosh on that talk, yelling ‘says which? My skates are aces! You dilly pills better shake a leg’. Her friends didn’t know exactly what she was saying but they did have to race to catch her. Ruby is still a woman on the move, and she’s got no time for booshwash. She might be bug but she and her skates are kippy, eggs in coffee, and  copacetic!
